Every math teacher is cancelled
Turns out the proof of this is actually phenomenally easypic.twitter.com/YF5OHpLCIx
This is true because all you do is move where the decimal is: 8*0.25=0.08*25 They're both 8*25*0.01 I used to teach calculus, and the number of kids who didn't understand basic fractions made it nearly impossible to teach them calculus. We need to change elementary math education
The number of elementary teachers I know who do not understand basic fractions is greater than 1.
I DONT HAVE THE TIME TO TEST THIS TO SEE IF IT'S TRUE BUT I'M STILL IRATE
Oh shit it works.
I'm, like, decent at math (first major in college was stats) and this has never, ever occurred to me. but it makes sense -- percentages are just multiplication, which like addition is a commutative operation. so 0.08 x 25 and 0.25 x 8 shake out identically
Same here, I was a math major , it’s a big part of my job now, and I have 2 elementary school kids and this has never occurred to me.
