Completely stunned. Most aggressive rider award for and get to stand on the podium in Paris. Did not expect that at all. Wow. Thankyou #speechless

My 3 girls. Cannot explain how I feel right now. I would like to introduce you to Daisy and Ella Martin, born at 9:31 and 9:32 this morning. All are doing very well.
The most beautiful podium in cycling. Always a special day in the season made even better by the privilege of most combative rider of the Tour de France. Thankyou
First time I’m not at since 2014 so had an idea. How about I tweet throughout the race as though I am riding GC. Looking ahead to the days stage and how I would approach it. Sound interesting?
I consider myself to be 1 of the luckiest people in the world to do what I love as a job, to have my health and to be married to @JessMartin_7 and soon to father twin girls. A flat tyre at the wrong moment is really shit, but I won’t dwell on it. I’ll keep fighting #perspective
20th July 1999 a 12year old me watched standing roadside on Val Louron-Azet. Very special to race over those same roads once more and even more so to race for the win. Fair play Simply stronger today. Proud of how I raced. Love the Pyrenees
All the new rules is creating with the excuse of making racing safer and they forget the basics. Parked cars all over the place in the final of a ‘sprint’ stage. They will claim they don’t have responsibility. One of scariest finishes I’ve done for a while.
Huge 3 weeks for myself and this team competing in its first vuelta remember. Just 1 day too far for me today after so much racing the last months. Hoping for a quiet ride around Madrid and time to head home. Thankyou all for the support. I gave it everything I had.
Whatever happens these next 2 days, 1 thing I will always have over is winning his home race. Thanks for the photo. Great memories.
Thankyou for all the messages. A very special day. Emotions got the better of me. So much time away from my 3 girls the last few months and things haven’t gone great but finally it all came together. Back at it again today.
Crazy day on Remarkably it seems I bounced well and I'm relatively ok. Sure to be sore tomorrow. Best wishes
Big thankyou to for helping on that last climb. Really didn’t need to but t helped a lot. I don’t forget gestures like that mate.
Empty. Gave everything this passed 3 weeks. With nothing left it was about getting around safe. Epic way to finish #thankumarseille
Could be worse. I'm still healthy and I can stand up straight finally. Plus there's a few hills coming up. #gameon #fighttotheend
Taking today as a personal victory. The result wasn’t what our ambition wanted but 4 weeks ago I could barely walk after fracturing my sacrum. Today I finally felt like I could push again. Hope to get the right break again soon.
Summary of today. A group of very tired men trying to race their bikes fast uphill and drop each other. In hindsight it was a lot of fun. Pure brutality.
In the end my race turned into 1 against myself to just get to the top as fast as possible. Incredible experience to ride most of #alpedehuez alone. Just didn’t have the strength left to follow the group. Thankyou for the support #keepfighting
Truly humbled by the messages I have received today. Incredibly happy to have shared the past 14 years of experiences with you. Thankyou again for all the support down the years. Now really excited to get going
Dear How about we think about banning this new descending technique of sitting on the top tube. Pro riders may have the skills but how many kids at home will endanger themselves attempting to imitate what they see on TV.
Last time I chatted with was in the podium at the Super happy to see him back on a bike and on the the road to recovery.
To the guy who stole my garmin off my bike when I was picking myself up off the floor yesterday; please send the training file to My needs to be updated
Feels like a lion has been clawing at my back but seems I am ok. Makes tomorrow’s stage even tougher but when have I ever walked away from a challenge.
Last time we will race against each other (probably). It all started 30+ years ago racing around the grand parents garden 🤣

First proper day off for 6 weeks and @JessMartin_7 puts me to work putting the twins pushchair together and other baby type stuff
From to the biggest challenge of my life. Hard to explain the mixed emotions leaving my @TeamUAEAbuDhabi boys behind but my teammate for life @JessMartin_7 needs me now as we set off on the most exciting adventure we could ever have imagined. 1/2
Always amazes me how many people spend hours on the side of the road waiting for to pass. Even more amazing that when we finally get there many look the other way and wave at a helicopter or run off the other way chasing a thrown bottle
Thankyou

“My warmest congratulations to @DanMartin86 on his outstanding performance in this year’s #TourdeFrance, and on winning the award for the race’s ‘most combative’ rider. His performances will give great encouragement to all Irish riders.”
After all the hard work and so many near misses amazing feeling to get a win. Thanks to @TeamUAEAbuDhabi for always believing.
Hope to continue to improve now and then can dream big next week. Unreal to still be in the fight after such a crash #waytoride
To all the riders Remember this is the last time you won’t have sore legs for a very long time. But it’s worth it. There’s nothing like the emotions you go through at Tour de France. Enjoy every kilometer of every stage. #ViveLeTour
Quite a sad reflection of the world we live in that I got turned away from a water slide today for being too light 🙈😂 70kg minimum weight!
Genuinely emotional watching take that win. One of the nicest guys you can meet. We became good friends when teammates and I know what he’s been through the last few years. So happy for you mate. You kept believing. Enjoy.
Incredible day and a nice little montage thanks to Thankyou for all the messages and support.

La Vuelta

Surely it would make more sense to help smaller budget teams get more money than to restrict income into the sport. Compared to football and formula 1 cycling is already a poor relation. More start money to smaller teams perhaps?
Gave everything to escape for the stage yesterday but guess I'm still a marked man. Paid for it in the end but proud to make the others hurt
Seriously impressive what is doing in his garage. Figured it was only right to go and half wheel him for abit
A certain Mr Andre Darrigade came to our bus yesterday to wish me good luck. Absolute please to meet him. 22 stage victories to his name.
As for me. Calm before the storm. Huge weekend ahead. Setting out to enjoy it. Anything from now is a bonus. Love these mountains though and excited to be back racing on Farapona and Angliru
Diagnosis of 2 small fracture took me by surprise. Shows how powerful the mind is in pushing through. No wonder I couldn't stand up straight

Thanks a lot guys. Have a really great day. See you in a few hours. At the front I hope

19months old tomorrow and starting to see how observant our twin girls are. They point at the coffee machine and say ‘dada’ and point at the wine fridge and say ‘mama’ 😂
After a few weeks of helping @JessMartin_7 grow her bump, here I am at the start of a race that’s been so good to me in the passed. Hoping for more of the same this week and of course I will attack. If I have the legs that is
That’s it then. 100% of the 2022 peloton made it further than I did in 2014. Congrats to all.
Did not expect the race to explode like that today. Luckily the legs were good. Will make tomorrow even more difficult but so excited to race up and all the craziness that comes with the 21 hairpins
Not nice arriving at the next hairpin and learning I had no front brake 🙈
Sheer determination and a lot of suffering kept me in the fight today. V happy and relieved to survive. Another night of recovery now.
London Olympic stadium to watch my wife @JessMartin_7 run the 10000m. No idea how she handles 3 weeks watching me. Wish her luck 👊
I have so much cycling kit, lightly used or even new. Anybody out there know of a charity who would like a donation? Cycling school perhaps?
Ok what do I know. Cycling doesn’t make sense to me anymore. That’s why I retired 😂 But what an amazing show. Whatever happens now. The collateral damage for tomorrow will also be huge.
1 of the first guys to congratulate me after stage 6 was @alafpolak I told him it was his turn.
Very happy to see him get the first of surely many TDF stages. Congrats
You still are a small kid. When was that taken? 3 years ago?
Privilege to be nominated for this prize and the chance to be on the podium in Paris.

Feeling 10 times better today but still can't ride out the saddle hence the hard tempo tactic to avoid accelerations. Seemed to work 😉
Start time: 12:25
Winners time will be more or less 5hrs.
Time limit: around 45/46min
Official sunset time 18:15
Headlamps mandatory for the grupetto
Thanks for all the good luck messages so far. Going to be a rollercoaster 3 weeks. Tricky first 9 days then some of the hardest stages I have ever seen in the May the best man win.
The fact the TV coverage starts at 930am and finishes 1710 kind of brought it home that there is quite a long day ahead tomorrow. I better get some sleep #worlds
Hiked up pic de Carroi from home. Considering starting a petition for it to be paved although perhaps wait until I have retired 🙈 5km average 16% and no idea how steep the final ramp is
After a day off yesterday to travel home, today I really understood just why we ride on rest days during a grand tour. Pedalling square ax #broken
Thanks to my teammates and @TeamUAEAbuDhabi for the support and understanding that family always comes first. I wish the guys the best of luck in the next 2 weeks of racing.
Sums up alpe d’huez atmosphere that the best photo I have of myself on the climb is with a guy in a mankind 🙈
The photos you find when digging through the archives 😂 a junior and a high rise stem before aero mattered.
Humbled and stunned to be along these names. I had no idea. Thankyou

Was wondering today if people will ever stop calling me Tony. But after talking to it seems he gets called Dan all the time. I guess we do look alike. Kind of. Not really
Good to see Didi the Devil leaping up and down like a madman even though it's only the recon day of Amstel.
It seems fitting that we leave this beautiful sport the same season.
played a huge role in my career. Thanks for everything and congratulations on one hell of a ride.

Big News: its time for me to close a very special chapter of my life!
@TrinitySports_
Busy week here and I forgot to share this with you. Slightly 2nd hand Somebody armed with a screw gun in the peloton? Never seen this before
1 of those hot melty road type of TDF stages. Fast pace and sticky roads made for a brutal day. Very happy with the finish but 2nd again! 😬😂
I 100% support comments on the final yesterday. No rider should ever be blamed for drafting. There must be research done to explore the distance a moto needs to be to avoid an advantage. Congrats to The strongest yesterday and deserved to win.
Rest day made. Blown away by the generosity and thoughtfulness of 1 Irish family who came to say hi on the rest day. Thankyou #racingformygirls #twins
Flashback to a conversation I had with during last year. ‘I have a kid now so I’m less crazy on downhills’.
Definitely demonstrated lower risk tolerance on Saturday 🙈
Thanks a lot to my @TeamUAEAbuDhabi for giving it everything to limit the losses today. Took me a while to pedal circles again and to add insult to injury, the commisaire made a barrage and pulled the cars out but we never give up. Tomorrow another fight
Very excited to join @TeamUAEAbuDhabi. Looking forward to bringing this team to the top of cycling together w/ the staff & my new teammates.
Big thankyou to for fixing my bike today while our car was helping Marcel. Saved all my bad luck for stage 21! #fairplayaward
Saturday my best friend @JessAndrews__ became my wife. Incredible weekend with family and friends. Dreams do come true.
Really excited to announce the release of my autobiography. A lot of energy and heart have gone into these words that I hope you will all enjoy geni.us/ChasedByPandas
The irony that with the big 2 being so equally matched on the climbs, could be decided by the fact Pogacar spent 5 weeks only training on his TT bike due to his wrist fracture.
Certainly an unexpected life experience today; getting hit by a quick blast of pepper spray. Not recommended. And I only got the tiniest of amounts
1 whole year has passed since I somehow managed to win stage 17 of the Where does the time go? Incredible memory and not a bad ‘last race I won was . . . . ‘
Budget caps would make sense for national teams but why penalize a privately owned team who successfully convince a company to invest heavily in return for greater exposure. How many teams are currently backed by companies who are household names globally?
7 weeks till publication of my first book Chased by Pandas and things really hectic. Reading final proofs, adding the finishing touches before it’s off to the printers and finalizing a publicity schedule. Scary but exciting
I think should be applauded for being proactive for once. Too often rules are implemented reacting to serious injuries or worse. Riding helmetless is perfectly safe, until you crash and hit your head. The barriers in Poland were ‘safe’ for 12 years. Just 2 examples.
Clearly it’s impossible to predict wind conditions months in advance. But I do think long stages have a place in cycling. Different length stages suit different riders and all adds up to a complete final gc winner. Boring yes but also tiring in a different way to short stages
Stage 2 will be a mental battle more than physical. I would take a risk, sit back out of trouble the first 150km. Rather be behind a crash than in it. Conserve as much energy as possible until the final 50km when you need to be right up front. #IfiwasthereTour
A friend just sent me this. Lucky little fella survived. #greatescape
Tried for the stage but have no power out the saddle in my back. Getting better every day though so hope to be back to myself next week
Pleasure to meet with a true cycling icon yesterday Mr Ernesto Colnago.
Incredible times for Irish cycling. with the stage victory and leading the same race Add to that the next generation Congrats to all #uptheirish
As for me, I woke up better than expected but far from ideal. Still excited for my @Paris_Roubaix experience. Will surely be a memorable stage just hope the carnage doesn’t continue
I understand all the precautions we are taking to avoid Covid but here I am sitting in a packed waiting room waiting to get my PCR test.
