  1. I’m a day late. But happy 17th birthday to the smartest, funniest social justice warrior I know!

  2. Stephanie sent me the associated video apparently made by the federal Office of Price Adjustment which managed federal rent control efforts. It’s sort of a hoot, especially the landlord at about minute 5 or 6.

ICYMI, gives a quick (<5min) primer on history of rent control (and later preemption of rent control) in Georgia...

“Contrary to the large [monetary] figure that is prominent on the new ‘Housing Affordability Tracker’ website, the site actually demonstrates that the City has not made any progress towards a pledge of new City funds...”

Am thinking about writing 5th book, but am more interested in publishers that market better to broader audience than typical academic press. Topic would be w/in broad arena of housing & urban futures & policy. Suggestions? Feel free to DM me or reply, esp w/acquisition contacts

"Rents are pretty good where they are now, they wager, and the high demand for housing makes buildings a safe long-term investment." (Obviously.)

And as has pointed out, most of these projects were already supported by existing funding from HUD, TAD, etc. We haven't allocated any new dollars towards this, and we won't make a dent until we do.

“Failed” is too strong word IMO. It was never going to end racial inequality in face of everything else. But yes, weak implementation by federal agencies & failure to modernize legislatively has made CRA far too weak. My 2004 book still relevant here.

Yes CRA very important. But this is not a robust history. It was Chicago’s Alinsky-influenced community organizing (spurred by contract for deed & FHA 235 debacles) that led to CRA. & Fed was major opponent to CRA (even as pushes back against Trump today)

Great to see doing this. The sort of transit advocacy most needed in the Atlanta region IMO.

's Metro Center is hiring! The Housing as a Platform practice area focuses on how housing can increase access to opportunity and advance equity. We are looking for an entry-level researcher to join us. Find out more here:

Should have added, it is also interesting that 49% of the public funding that they claim here comes from federal tax exempt bonds, a federal source that requires repayment, and not any sort of deep subsidy.

So site NOT useful for tracking $500 MM pledge. It continues to appear that there are no sources of NEW CITY $ yet, other than perhaps $28 MM from GULCH redevelopment. It may be useful site to examine what sorts of projects are getting $$ from pre-existing funding sources. 4/4
