Had the US per-capita traffic death rate equaled that of France since 1994, the US would have had 387,000 fewer deaths by 2021. 🧵

In a new post , I examine changes in ridership on subway/elevated lines in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, & Washington between 2019 & 2020. There were major differences between neighborhoods based on their demographics & jobs.

-Local transit operations funds are higher in wealthier cities, not those needing transit most
-State funds are higher in more liberal states, leaving behind cities in conservative states
-A $20b federal program could be a boon for equity
