The hippocampus “holds in mind” future possibilities on alternating cycles of the theta rhythm— a potential mechanism of deliberation. Honored to have been a small part of this work, and stoked for the world to see Kenny’s elegant findings!

A review of the evidence for the distinction between "active" working memory, implemented through persistent spiking activity, and "silent" working memory, which maintains information via short-term synaptic plasticity.

Predictive Routing: "There are no special error-detection circuits or mechanisms." There are instead pathways that are gated by predictions and thus can be activated by unexpected inputs. Amazing monkey electrophysiology work by Andre Bastos

(1/2) How do predictive coding accounts explain the difference between conscious / unconscious processing? One option is: you're conscious of the winning hypothesis. & argue this doesn't work: the winning hypothesis can be unconscious (e.g. blindsight).

New paper alert!: Is the P300/P3b a neural signature of perceptual awareness? We combined a visual masking paradigm with a no-report paradigm and found that it is not.

We also tracked motor action preparation and midfrontal theta-band activity using EEG. Based on the joint patterns of these signals we derived a new theory linking frontal theta with a range of performance monitoring processes e.g. error correction and decision confidence 3/3

We found evidence suggesting that people reduced their rates of decision evidence accumulation when the previously-encountered stimulus was incongruent. This is likely related to 'shifts of attention' described in conflict monitoring models. 2/3

TL;DR version first -> We adapted a (very nice) EEG analysis framework based on evidence accumulation models (e.g. the Diffusion model) to figure out how we adjust our decision-making strategies after seeing incongruent stimuli in a Flanker task. TL;DR 1/3

New preprint: Computational model of attentional dynamics. We generalized the normalization model of attention into the time domain to capture attention to points in time. Data and modeling suggest that voluntary attention is a limited resource over <1 s.
