Replacing council tax with a revenue neutral land value tax would reduce bills for the majority and the average (mean) bill remains the same

The Tories have been reduced to fake news & lies .What a shambles. Funny how they never want to talk about their own 'manifesto' ? Lol!
-
That's because all their spending is based on "a growing economy" something they've failed to deliver for 7 years!
-
There manifesto is: Rob from the poorer to pay them and their rich friends. That's it.
-
Yeah, same as always, why fix it if it ain't broke!

Figures from where? The land of make-believe? A random figure drawn from Michael Howard's bowler hat?

Whose figures?! And it's not a Labour proposal
#fakenews -
The proposal is on P86 of the manifesto I believe & figures are from a Labour support grouppic.twitter.com/jqrfAo1ES8

Hi Rob, spot on with page number! They will consider alternatives to council tax/biz rates but no commitment given: Green's being deceitful.
-
There's a full discussion here, stressing that yes, the figures are from a lobbying campaign group, not Labour.https://fullfact.org/economy/labours-land-value-tax-will-you-have-sell-your-garden/ …
-
Thanks for that, was aware it's committed to a consultation though I think we could agree it would quickly be moved to an actual policy??
-
The devil's in the detail - hard to judge atm. As the link says, the ASI, IFS and Milton Friedman (of all people!) have been enthusiasts.
-
These debates are important & rightly matter to people BUT Green's tweet suggests it's a given with real figures. That's just plain wrong.
-
There are so many concrete and interesting arguments to make on both sides. Why resort to blatant manipulation? A real shame for us all.
