Let me clarify something. Local libraries aren't free. Home owners must pay a local library tax. My bill is $495/year.

Do you know how much you are disappointing Mr. Rogers right now?
-
There is no recovering from that level of disappointment.

Our library has a public swimming pool right next door and it's free to anybody with a library card.

Yeah they have those programs here as well. I’ve noticed that detractors of libraries don’t realize that they are the community. The library serves so many functions outside of books. It does it all in one place and isn’t spread out requiring a lot of travel.

He knows what a library is, and what services they provide. He’s just so entitled that he is angry he has to pay for them.

That $495 figure seems awfully high. In Texas the average community is asked to spend in the neighborhood of $15 annually per capita. I don't know about other states but I serve on the accreditation review board in Texas so I might have a smidge of expertise.

Isn’t it amazingly pathetic that you have to justify LIBRARIES to this guy?

Don't forget the free tutoring. Don't forget the free computer classes - both for kids and non-kids. Don't forget the free computer use for people looking for jobs (which are hard to apply for without a computer.)

And, in Oklahoma, the library is a place to get out of the heat. But I AM talking about the hoi polloi, and I suspect he doesn't like THOSE kinds of people.
