I explained this to my therapist a while back when I was asked why I'd stopped using a journal. It was just harder. I don't like keeping things to myself, being pent up. it has the same type of negative build-up to me as keeping a shameful secret.

I also like the idea of framing philosophical, health, personal, or political related thoughts in the context of a dialogue/discussion, because it has the potential for growth outside of my own vantage point.

It's a type of intimacy that exposes us in a way that some of us need in order to grow, because we're able to lay ourselves bare and come to terms with our thoughts/convictions, how we relate to others through them, etc.

I feel like this type of exposure of our ideology to others is crucial to self-actualization. We aren't true to ourselves until we've expressed the parts of ourselves that we're afraid to share openly.

From there we learn how to empathize w/ others honestly, not just sympathize, and after that we're capable of deciding to to actively and earnestly live in that more exposed fashion. Vulnerability is scary, but it is also incredibly rewarding.

It's not about external validation, it's about learning that you can pick and choose whose validation matters to you, why it matters to you, whether or not you need to chase it at all, and just doing you once you've come to that conclusion.

If I discuss politics with someone who doesn't argue/make assertions in good faith, that is my self-indulgent choice, it's not about saving/proving to myself that I can convince anyone/everyone else that my values are correct. It's more like a type of exercise for my brain.

I feel like I understand why people feel/think the way they do, merely by virtue of engaging with them. The growth that occurs as a result of those encounters enables me to better discuss with people who ACTUALLY discuss/argue in good faith in a productive way, down the line.

I'm a pretty intuitive person though, as much as that word can imply without getting into pseudoscience, haha. Stuff that seems like common sense to me can feel/be really nuanced or nebulous to others, which is descriptive of the human experience altogether IMO.

We can't know what we don't know without listening. The threshold for me on that, is when people demonstrate a complete lack of empathy or investment/interest in the wellbeing of others, only pursuing things to their own ends.

this is typical of self-victimizing inadequate incel/cis/straight white alt-right folks, and/or any of their ilk.

Sometimes you can tell that i'm still working out my thoughts on something, based on how redundant/ramble-y the way I've articulated those thoughts, are.

Fully behind you on this one. I've had conflicts with family over how much I share on social media like Twitter, unable to convince them that doing so is healthier for me than bottling it up. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You've helped me put words to my own struggles <3
