Thinking about how much people take nice dentists for granted. For those of us with severe phobias, having a dentist with a good bedside manner is vital. My dentist is one of these, he saw me as an emergency this morning & immediately put my mind at ease.
I've had horrible dentists in the past & they've made my phobia spiral into nothingness so I've been unable to return for YEARS. The fact I can now call the dentist & go in on my own for an emergency appointment speaks volumes as to what a good dentist can do to aid recovery.
When you’ve found a good one you need to stick with them! My mother also has a phobia of dentists from childhood experiences, so much so that she has to be sedated for a normal check up. It took years and years to get her back in the chair.
I'm managing to get through a checkup pretty well now - but still have to be sedated for everything else including cleaning, extractions, fillings etc. Today was just "Stop grinding your teeth you're hurting your cheek. Also you have an infection so here's some drugs!"
I swear most dental hygienists would have been really into the Spanish inquisition if they were around then
