In the UK, #MLKDay was never a big thing growing up. But it ought to be. Our country isn’t exempt from how it’s treated our Black citizens both past and present.
At Christmas Sainsbury’s aired a Christmas ad with a Black family, I don’t have to remind you of how it went.
Anyone saying it isn’t as rife in this country as in the US (or elsewhere) is completely oblivious and needs to educate themselves ASAP. I’ll be sticking this date in my diary & work calendar from now on, as most UK calendars don’t appear to have it.
Sure the UK and the US share an origin in the British empire. Wild to realise I was reading about the history of US slavery on MLK day (for college). All places, inc ireland, have issues with racism. Its sickening to think people look down on others by the colour of their skin
