I'm making the decision to cut my nails short. Or at least shorted with no dagger-like points. Frustrating and small in comparison to the rest of the world, but they were always a symbol of my freedom of expression as my ex tried to get me to cut them constantly.
It'd be "Well I don't like them at all but if YOU feel you NEED to then whatever." < Such a loaded thing to say to someone with low self esteem. So I was like "Fuck it, I'm gonna." They'll grow back, at least.

Never! My nails may stop being sharp (for a brief period) but my wit will always be piercing.
I'm happy for you that you feel ready to ignore their opinion entirely, rather than feeling compelled to actively reject the option that they would have preferred. This decision is all yours. (I keep my own quite short just because I am clumsy and scratch myself a lot.)
The nice thing about nails and hair— they’ll grow back and we can express ourselves with them as much as we can. 
It’s true! I just can’t risk having them grow out like they did last lockdown, they got to the point were they were uncomfortable and painful and I think our lockdown will last over 5 weeks!
