I was today years old when I learned Americans pronounce algae as ‘al-jee’

It’s honestly not a word I use often. Less than once a year. I think I vacillate between pronunciations but still, sorry.
Please don’t apologise - I was just watching an interesting science video and the woman talking about it said it and I was like “Wait, why is she pronouncing it like that?” then Google was like “Yep this is a whole thing!”
