So words can trigger flashbacks, PTSD, disassociation etc. Blanking them out protects people that might be affected by it.

That's fair enough but putting a * instead of an a or an i doesn't change much imo no?

It does, there’s a difference in seeing GRAB and GR*B It takes longer for the brain to register the second one. And if we can protect people with a simple * why wouldn’t we?

People need to stop being pedantic and just let people censor trigger words

My issue is that if someone muted "fuck", it won't pick up on "f*ck", so the mute was worthless and so was the censoring.

There might be first time users, people might not know the mute button exists. Why are y’all so pressed about protecting victims of abuse?

I'm just pointing out that it's stupid to say "f*ck" instead of fuck because they'll still know what the word is anyways and it goes around a muted word filter. I'm trying to think logically, showing how it's worse to censor it. I'm trying to help victims of abuse, if anything.

Like, it's not being pedantic. It's being logical and reasonable. The idea that "it takes longer to register the word" I think it a terrible excuse for censoring manually because it doesn't make any sense at all. The reality is that person was self censoring because--

, or at least my perception of them self censoring, is because they are afraid to actually say those words for whatever reason. Just like a polite mom might say, "Excuse my French, but heck." It's useless to censor in that way and can hurt more than it helps because of filters.

Triggering doesn’t work purely based on logic though, does it? Before counselling, I saw words that would give me anxiety attacks. Songs that would make me almost throw up if I heard them. Saying “You shouldn’t be triggered by a song, that’s illogical,” is rubbish?

I never said "You shouldn't be triggered by a song" or anything like that. I'm just trying to understand how a censored word with one letter missing is not triggering, but am uncensored word is triggering.
