I was taught a totally different way of doing it, so I've probably been getting it wrong all these years

You can also do two loops and Tue them together for the same result and that was something that I didn't realise well into my thirties A mate at school taught me to tie mine the way that you show in your video

I work at a STEM school. Part of curriculum is PBL's (Problem Based Learning, "here is the problem, what are some solutions). Our kindergarten kids last year did theirs on shoe tying (being 5 & 6 years old, they didn't know how). Lesson: there are MANY ways to tie a shoe. :)

I don't do it the 'normal' way either. I do basically a square knot but with folded ends to create the loops. Works exactly the same.

I was taught to do them backwards, pushing the 2nd loop towards me instead of away, which makes for a knot that comes undone easily. Had to relearn the right way once I found out at about age 25

My dad taught me the how to when I was a child, one of the best memories I have, funny thing I was thinking about it earlier this morning
