So, ep41 Incels and harmful gender norms pt1 is out for patrons, and an early listener noted it would be good to reiterate the opening CW. This material is so radioactive, no human should listen to it. It should be buried under a mountain somewhere.https://www.patreon.com/posts/ev-041-part1-18561257?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=postshare …

That's the brutal part, being sympathetic but also not wanting to contribute. It's such a fine line. I'm painfully sympathetic, but where they go with it is indeed a horror show.
-
I appreciated that you attempted to honestly tackle the few kernels of truth that have been perverted into that monstrosity.
-
It's a voidy job, but someones got to do it.

I too used to be very sympathetic to the friend zone. I credit a feminist friend who somehow had the patience to put up with me. It grieves me that I’ve hurt women because of that and that in other circumstances I could be just as bad.
-
It is pure moral luck that I am who I am now instead of somewhere on the wrong end of the anti-feminist spectrum. I’d like to say that being called out on it helped, but I just can’t know that.
-
The important thing I think is the humility and the sympathy and the work of balancing helping those causing pain and protecting those suffering around them.

I highly recommend episode 19 of
@stephlepp’s excellent podcast, Reckonings, titled “How can we become majestic elephants” about coming out of extremism. http://www.reckonings.show/episodes -
Stevie’s whole show is ultimately about that humility you’re talking about.
-
That sounds excellent. And like someone we need to have on the show.
-
Hells yeah!

A few years ago a feminist I respected called me out on it and accused me of not being an ally. I was livid and bitter about that for a long while but eventually realised she was right, and how insidious it is.
