The most important public symbol of democracy in the UK isn’t Big Ben, nor the Portcullis, nor (with full respect) the Maces It’s a removal van outside 10 Downing Street When the Gov’t changes after a General Election, that removal van symbolises the peaceful transfer of power

Yes, but that's cos we have a neutral civil service isn't it. The system of having a political administration means a long period of hand over is required...this President has shown up the problem with that big time

There are "cons" to our system as well though - even if the civil service are meant to be neutral, it seems they rarely are, and also, they get stuck in their ways over time, making the implementation of change more difficult

It's somewhat brutal in speed, but that's the whole point of it. You lose, you're out. And you don't get nut jobs threatening to storm the Parliament to alter the outcome.

Just a reminder how fortunate we are to have a solid parliamentary democracy, strong institutions, and the Monarchy 🇬🇧

Where the Prime Minister would never try to subvert it by illegally proroguing parliament,😉

I would suggest it’s the trip to the Palace .. one out and the next one in. The great advantage of a non-political Head of State. The removals van is certainly important!
