Dear colleagues! Russia tried to wipe out our language and Ukrainian spelling of our cities for hundreds of years. When you follow Russian spelling of our cities, you may as well report this war straight from Moscow.

Update (12/3) Over 40 deaf Ukrainian children are now in the Berlin deaf school. Numbers still growing, and only 1 Ukrainian teacher – Olga, deaf from deaf family. Help being given by school and deaf community. An international sign language policy for deaf refugees is needed.

I’ve been raising this particular injustice since day 1 of the war on . Going into institutions during Kosovo Crisis turned my life toward rights. We need to learn that institutions are dangerous at any time, esp deadly during pandemic and war. No more.

What I feared most re: is happening. People with disabilities most at risk in crises are in institutions. This was true during COVID & it’s true in war. Institutions need to be shuttered. People deserve to live (& die) in community & w/ families.

These people should not have been in institutions in the first place. And now, in the middle of an armed conflict, they are at heightened risk. Urgent, trauma and disability-informed steps need to be taken to ensure their emergency deinstitutionalisation and safe evacuation.

These r the lucky persons w/ disabilities, able to leave Ukraine. Many more r stuck w/o accessible info/transport, unable to find accessible shelter. & that doesn’t even count the 100s of 1000s in ‘social care homes,’ psychiatric facilities, orphanages.

🇺🇦Update❗️ We got a lot of requests about help from Ukrainians with disabilities and try to solve them ASAP. We helped to evacuate some people and safely cross borders, shared neccessary information or contacts. We do all our best to support Ukrainian PWDs.

We have a huge problem with transportation to the borders from regions. We found some organisations and volunteers who help us, but that's still not enough. So if you know any drivers/volunteers/organizations who may help, please, let us know.
