It feels absurd to live in Germany right now, with barely any new cases(we're mostly testing nurses atm) -- and then you're in public and see people with really bad coughs, in June.
wait, this is the first i hear about this testing shortcoming in Germany -- you think it could be much worse than the reports?
It's... hard to say. 1.7% positive out of >400k tests last week. Theoretically we could test about 1M/week, but never do. Most testing as I understand is now routine: HCW/nurses etc. Everything opens up. But clusters pop up here and there.
Yes. Hunt the clusters from single cases, investigate, track, trace. IMO bad: until this week (since March) you could call in sick if you had ILI, but now have to visit physician again (now also with community mask, was optional previously). 1/2
But people think it's over. Aside of having to wear mask in stores -- even there people don't distance as they should. Few take it seriously, noses out etc. And that probably includes symptomatic people who then don't get tested. And that can explode again.
We were prepared for Italian scenario. Med students volunteered, large makeshift ICU tents in Bavaria and Berlin. We increased ICU capacity. Locally, we hit the previous limit, but had expanded by 100% so was fine. But no drastic scenes like elsewhere.
