40. In general there is an interesting contrast: the Goa'uld are supposed to be a bunch of sociopaths, but they're not, because sociopaths tend to operate outside the social rules of the situation. The Goa'uld can't, while the SGC barely notice the rules exist.

(I'm stopping again for now, but I'll resume another time. I will complete my Stargate obligations, don't worry!)

51. One of the important lingering questions I have about the aftermath of the series that was never explained to my satisfaction... When the Jaffa adopted democracy, what voting system did they use? I hope it was a proportional representation one but suspect it was FPTP based.

52. I've always really liked the aesthetic of the interior of the Earth ships in Stargate. They feel more like actual functional vessels that people use than a lot of sci fi ships. It's an especially interesting contrast to the Goa'uld vessels which are (deliberately) nonsense

53. One theory I have of why a lot of the Goa'uld tech is quite as ridiculous as it is is that it's designed to be operated by Jaffa who are deliberately kept in the dark. We very rarely see the actual Goa'uld technology base, we're just seeing the Tinkertoy versions for the game

54. A thing that makes me kinda mad about Stargate is how much of the advanced tech is not made available for civilian use because of the secrecy. The SGC has the tech to end energy scarcity and move the world to be fully carbon neutral and they just... don't.

55. Admittedly some of that tech is not stuff they can easily reproduce yet. e.g. Asgard beams could revolutionise transportation globally but AFAICT they don't really have the knowledge base to build those themselves until the very end of the show.

56. A persistent source of annoyance for me in SG1 is Jack's bigotry against artifical life forms (this is a pet peeve for me in sci-fi in general). The situation with Reece could have been handled much better, and the way they handled their Altairans duplicates was appalling.

57. Not to mention Fifth. Dear god, fifth. Everything that happens in the replicator war after that point is your fault, Jack.

58. I'm also very annoyed with the SGC for their handling of the Orbanians. I'll grant their culture is... Problematic, but they're an advanced human civilisation with an incredible technology base. The future of the galaxy definitely belongs to the Orbanians.

Have you read the Commonwealth series by Peter F Hamilton? Planetary expansion is done with wormholes and rail networks!
-
I have. I kinda liked it, but it's very Peter F. Hamilton. The issue with Stargates though is that you only get one per planet, so they're a major bottleneck.
