I've been interspersing Celeste with paper writing today so that when the paper writing gets too painful I go play Celeste until that gets too painful and drives me back to the paper. The Celeste C-Sides are not more painful than paper writing but it's close.

I beat the Old Site C-Side relatively easily in the end - it's much more straightforward once you learn the lesson about dream blocks it's trying to teach you.

A lot of the {B/C}-sides seem to just be about teaching you niche corners of the game mechanics that you'd probably not notice in the normal levels. In this case it's that you can dash through a dream block but immediately grab onto it on the other side.

A nice thing about the C-sides is that throughout a lot of Celeste there's a nagging impostor syndrome where you're not sure if you're good at the game or are just grinding through on sheer dogged determination, but you cannot complete a C-side without actually being good at it

This isn't really because they're harder so much as because they leave very little room for luck or error.

I've only just started on the B-sides! Not been to Core yet. How bad are C-sides compared to the Bs?
-
It depends a bit. The difficulty increase of going from normal levels to B-Sides is much higher than the difficulty increase of going from C to B. Also the Core and some of the final summit screens are worse than the C-Sides I think.
