    Spoke with Chairman of Richard Gere today to underscore the U.S. Government’s serious commitment to support Tibetan human rights. The depth of the CCP’s interference in Tibetan Buddhism and culture is frightening. We support meaningful autonomy for Tibetans.

    PRC actions against Uyghurs and other minority groups in Xinjiang are a horrifying attempt to eradicate their centuries-old culture, crush population growth, and eliminate religious beliefs. We demand the PRC stop this genocide now, before these horrors are truly irreversible.

    We call for an end to mass detentions, torture, brainwashing, forced sterilizations, and persecution of Uyghurs and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups, including ethnic Kazakhs and ethnic Kyrgyz.

    Alarmed by the arrest of Belarusian journalist Andrei Aliaksandrau. Sadly, this is only the latest example of the Lukashenka regime's disdain for media freedom. We call on Belarusian authorities to release Aliaksandrau and other journalists imprisoned for their work immediately.

    Removing people from homes. Forcing them to work for no pay. Living under 24/7 surveillance. Does that sound like “vocational training?” No. It's forced labor, a human rights abuse used by the CCP to control Uyghurs and members of other minority groups.

    It was my great honor to speak with His Holiness . I have long admired his peaceful dedication to teaching Tibetan Buddhist traditions. We reject attempts by any government to limit the freedom of religious communities to select their own leaders.

    I met with artisans from the Norbulingka Institute to learn about Tibetan culture. Their traditions in woodwork, painting, textiles, and more must be preserved. Grateful for the institute’s work keeping Tibetan traditions alive and helping artists.

    Forced labor is a human rights abuse. Kudos to @FCDOGov , & on their measures to prevent UK businesses from inadvertently supporting forced labor in Xinjiang and elsewhere in China, which the CCP uses to repress Uyghurs and others.

    The UK Government is gravely concerned about the situation in Xinjiang and the growing evidence of human rights abuses there. We’ve announced measures to send a message that these violations are unacceptable, & to safeguard UK businesses from any involvement or linkage with them

    Today I met with the Tibetan Parliament & Cabinet in Exile to discuss the importance of their work in reflecting the interests of their community. It was an honor to talk with these elected representatives of the Tibetan diaspora.
