Folks. We need to have a talk about mammals adapted for digging and eating insects because frankly they’re otherworldly.

Often when I'm rehearsing for a lecture I end up crying because I feel such deep ecological grief about the subject matter I'm trying to discuss. It is so hard to think about the climate crisis and ecological disasters every day and still try to be a functioning person.

Porpoise vertebrae look like Lambda-class Imperial shuttles. Why r the vertebral processes so long? All 🐳s have uber strong back muscles (they skipped leg day). The long vertebral processes are attachment points 4 those muscles.

I am (very peripherally) involved in a really cool project on evolution of medieval whaling and seriously envy my colleagues in archaeology, history and forensic genetics. Its really cool to see how Iron Age people made use of whales...

Really great article on our new paper! “How loud is it? According to Burville, “If you were in a quiet room, and you got a standard Bible, and you put it above your head in your hand, and then smashed it down flat on the desk — it’s louder than that.”

Friends, going to parliament on Monday and talking to politicians gave me some strange and depressing insights. A thread: 1. The two major parties only care about winning elections and are incapable of working together to immediately take action to reduce global emissions

I tried layering some images to show what it’s like when I watch Ospreys hunt. Hopefully my layering skills will improve, but for now, I think this is a pretty good representation of the dive. The bird nerd in me gets so pumped each time I witness this. 😁
