    Was thinking about that today. Team won its first two series including beating Scherzer and the Nats, Acuna is on the way soon, Camargo on the way, and most of the questions and talk today are about who they’ll sign next winter when they’re clearly waiting to see what needs are.

    does it ever bother you that our fans are more worried and speculative about next year than enjoying the games and the players that are playing every day? if our SP is average, we will win 80+ games maybe more

    Lots of folks focus on the available free agents, but ATL can also upgrade a position (and add payroll) via trade. Lots of options out there if you have the money to spend.

    If we make FA signing splash next winter, I suspect it will be for pitching. Even with all the trades and draft picks - we don't have a pitcher who we know will consistently give us a chance to win every start and we haven't done well lately in development.

    Like a year ago when Acuna wasn’t rated as high in most top 100s as Riley is now, the Braves should’ve signed a free agent OF and traded Acuna? Or same for Ozzie a year ago?

    At some point, assuming the money is available - which it will be -shouldn’t the Braves go with a “known” (FA) over an unknown (prospect)?

    Once again: this year is being used to evaluate Riley and others. It doesn’t make sense to you; it definitely does make sense to many of us. More importantly, it does to Braves officials.

    The will probably have at least one bigger splash in they 2019 market though, I agree that unless they don’t believe in Dansby/Riley Machado may not be the guy. Who do you like though?

    No, because if they determine they need a shortstop it’d be different than if they determine they need a 3B, and so on. And if they had a couple of injuries to rotation then that might suddenly be a big need. So, in my opinion, kind of pointless for me to speculate a week in.

    Depends largely on where biggest need is, and that’s what this season will be used for — to evaluate players and prospects and determine biggest need.

    As always, thanks for the articles and intel, . Who do you see the Braves going after in off season? Who are the realistic stars they pursue?

    The object is to develop your own guys where you can, then fill in the gaps where you don’t have your own affordable players coming up through system. Not spend big dollars on one of the positions where you potentially have your own homegrown stud.

    They won’t need to or try to outbid for arenado or any other 3B if Riley continues developing as he has. Everyone in organization is bullish on him. Not just as a power hitter but he’s made himself into a good defender.
