Absolutely Yes. Anonymous comments to research papers turned out to be something not productive at all. To add: In many people get pushed not for mistakes but for correct results, because someone less skilled believes its wrong.

As a frequent commenter on
@PubPeer (n=1800), both under my full name or anonymous in cases of litigious authors, I disagree. And I agree with many PubPeer posts about serious concerns about images, author affiliations, selective data picking, or conflicts of interest. - Još 5 drugih odgovora

As someone who posts not-anonymously (I’ll leave it to others to judge whether I am resentful, petty or failed) I find this a very bad take. I’ve been able to use it to flag papers with real problems (a few of which have actually been corrected as a result) and...

...sometimes for group brainstorming in how to solve a problem (eg statisticians workout together to post their code in detective work trying to simulate things to figure out off a paper’s analysis is flawed or impossible).

Not sure that I agree. Yes, most commenters are anonymous. But pointing out errors or discussing weaknesses is not harassment, but an essential part of science. Plus,
@PubPeer has brought to light many cases of fabrication and falsification. - Još 1 odgovor

The anon posters
@PubPeer voluntarily correct mistakes polluting the scientific literature. If the authors and editors did a better job, it wouldn’t be necessary. When you’ve got more than a dozen corrections in process, perhaps a little self reflection is warranted. - Još 2 druga odgovora

Authors can always respond and correct the mistake or say the criticism is unfounded. I would have a lot of respect for that over someone hearing there are issues with a paper and saying it doesn’t matter because we are human.

Pubpeer is playing a very important role and will continue to become more and more important as more people become aware of it. It has helped flagged hundreds of articles with systematic false reporting. Failed scientists, really?

just keep in mind that being a good scientist and being a successful scientist are very different things
