People are often a product of the programming they receive, and it’s tough to undo taught behavior. They aren’t to be blamed for who they are, those who produce the programming are. Kindness and generosity of time helps far better than shaming.

Indeed. Until we tear down the systems that perpetuate positively reinforced harmful behaviors, things won’t change on a large scale. Until then, it’s up to us to undo the harmful behaviors of others. Patients and understanding are key.
