This person does not speak for us Veterans. He’s, obviously, what we’d call ‘a shitbag’. I’d be surprised if he’s a real veteran. He’s probably some neckbeard who likes to play GI Joe with his buddies because he’s to ignorant to hack it as a real service member.

Naw dude this is more or less what I've come to expect from vets, you don't continue living after shooting those many innocent people without creating a world view that makes it necessary if not good

That’s an interesting point of view. Not all of us are there to kill, nor kill with joy in our hearts. Personally, I learned a lot about virtue by learning vice, as many of us do. The best teacher for being anti-war is having been a part of one.

That's true, I feel alot for veterans who have become disillusioned, I can't imagine living with the knowledge of what you've really been a part of. That being said they always seem few and far between compared to the large number of soldiers who have nothing but pride.

Tis true. It’s sometimes very rough. Some people handle it better than others. Some people develop pretty severe PTSD as a result. A large part of that pride comes from a shared experience thats akin to going to hell and back.

I mean it just comes down to the individual. I met vets with repugnant views and I’ve met vets who actually respected those living in Afghanistan and Iraq as actual human beings. Racist vets were likely racist before joining the military.

I mean I knew a kid in high school who wanted to join the marines to “shoot sand savages and terrorists”. Racism doesn’t start in the military it’s there beforehand as a result of ultra right American Jingoistic culture.

I went to MEPS with a person like that. They didn’t make it through boot. “In the Marine Corps, everyone is equally worthless.” (Marines heard that thousands of times.)
