America finally has the pro-democracy movement that it needs. And there is a lot of work to do.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/11/opinion/democrats-midterms-resistance-trump-democracy.html …

And now: A serious mass movement for a constitutional amendment that provides major campaign-finance regulation. Big issue for state legislature elections. Had Heitkamp/Donnelley/McCaskill/Nelson used Kavanaugh vote to highlight that Citizens United was 5-4 GOP, they'd have won.

Democracy is evil, Leonhardt. Do you use the word in a propagandist way, or is your knowledge level so superficial because you believe so much left wing propaganda? Democracy is the weapon of tyrants. Democracy is mob rule. It ends in the oppression of the weak.

It is the best of the worst forms of governing, governing is in most of history mainly evil, by design. But our Constitution divied up the power brokering in ways that work to date, and it will always be becoming, an experiment. Beats Stalin.

Love this but my favorite idea to add to your list is early voting across all states.

Early voting is fine, but studies show that it hasn't drastically improved turnout (yet). A better idea is universal vote-by-mail/vote at home. The places that have it show the highest turnout rates.

Great column. One addition: it’s sometimes best to start with local laws & local grassroots movements—as many of these reforms have already. With apologies for a self-plug, we need to hear these stories of local democracy champions, as I tell them here https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FRZV8WC …

If you can't win when more Americans vote, you shouldn't win. If you can't win when all the votes are counted, you didn't win.
