One thing this ep made clear to me is that, beyond China's real interest in limiting spread, official COVID death counts have became a global scoreboard for Xi to defend his regime and discredit the decadence of the west and its liberal democracies

No, the Chinese official COVID data is not remotely credible.
But the fact that the data is so in-credible is another sign of China's extraordinary and outwardly bizarre attempts to prove that COVID Zero is both desirable and possible.
