The goal is to stay healthy without losing our minds. If you describe an aerosolized virus as being “on your vegetables, on the floor, on your clothes, on your face, and maybe also in the air" you will be less strategic and hygienic—and also, you may lose your mind.

Even if it does little for respiratory viruses, there's, uh... intestinal stuff on people's hands that I'm glad gets smacked with high proof alcohol.

Not bad idea, but hand washing and taking care of not touching your mouth could suffice... I acknowledge this could be difficult in some cases, so alcohol rub OK. Not indispensable in most cases though.

We need something like a window AC unit that has a heat exchanger in it to help keep the inside air warm in the winter and cool in the summer, but its whole job is just circulation.
