Why Civilians Should Let The REAL Police Carry-Out Sting Operations
This reporter has been made aware of a group of people with ZERO law enforcement training, ZERO state authorization, ZERO legal supervision by the state, and ZERO accountability

The group calls themselves "Worldwide Predator Hunters" The group admits they conduct "investigations" and that they are "volunteers" with no government authorization, and no legal authority of any kind to carry-out their "sting operations", thus placing the public in dangerpic.twitter.com/5FVYyzySmU

Their statement on their website is evidence of the facts in the above tweet. That statement is attached here. Also attached here is a statement from their statement saying everything on their site and social media are only entertainment, thus blurring the lines

When police conduct stings to catch sexual predators, they have proper legal guidance from their department/agency, as well as the state or the U.S. Attorney's office if a federal agency is conducting the operation

Undercover sting operations, especially sex crimes stings, require specialized training and focus, attention to keeping the public safe, keeping officers / agents safe, and keeping the offender safe, as well as respecting the rights of the accused

Another issue with this is that many times, the local, state, county, and / or federal law enforcement already have their own investigation going on, and so if this group does one of their operations, they can end up getting law enforcement personnel hurt or killed

You do something stupid, and law enforcement personnel get hurt or killed, it's their families who pay the price. I have a retired CPD Detective in my family. Police families have very real concerns about groups like this Predator Hunter group

The next concern is that if this Predator Hunter group misses just ONE tiny detail, or is out of step with ANY part of applicable laws, then the offender walks We learned this lesson with PJI who was the group on "To Catch a Predator". Tons of those cases got tossed

Fellow civilians, if you REALLY want to help the police, then you need to stay out of their way. Provide them with information, maybe use some skill or ability you have somewhere in the background that gives them extra needed support or info gathering....

The thing you NEVER EVER DO is go out on your own and play undercover cop. Don't do it. Not unless the REAL police are supervising you. ANYTHING can go wrong. Your family surely wants you home safely. Leave criminal investigations to the police

You wanna help sex crime victims? Go to college, get a degree, or if you can't afford it or political fuckery keeps you from doing that, then you can do awareness activism, volunteer for @MissingKids, donate to #NCMEC
Just stay out of the way of police
