In the autumn every four years, we encounter the same thing. We very loudly criticize (usually in capital letters) every reprehensible idea about "their" candidates, but we (equally loudly) ignore or decry anything reprehensible said about ours. (1/4)

And then, to stir the pot further, we re-broadcast any scrap of foul-smelling nastiness about their candidate in an attempt to persuade everyone (by tacit comparison) that "our candidate isn't THAT bad" while still openly ignoring any evidence presented by them about ours. (2/4)

The sad part of all of this is that we *expect* it. Every four years, we don our blinders, charge our bullhorns, and try to convince everyone of our righteousness and their villainy. What is it about the "us vs them" scenario that brings out the worst person in all of us? (3/4)
