Wouldn’t it be a better strategy to win congressional seats first to build up a party force and then run for POTUS?
In my experience, most voters choose the down-ballot candidates whom they will vote for by who is at the "top of the ticket". If you really think that getting good people into Congress is a first step, then having a strong POTUS candidate is a necessary precursor to that.

That's not what I said. My point was that we need a strong candidate at the top, not necessarily that they needed to win. If the candidate is strong enough, those of us in the down-ballot races stand a better chance of being elected to our various seats. THAT was my point.
