If the man had committed a crime, he would be held for that. If ICE wanted to hold and deport him, they would have. They are still working in NYC sanctuary or not. That designation doesn't stop him from being detained for crimes or deported for same.

It stops the city from reporting him to ICE when he is in custody on a local level. So let’s say he attempts to murder someone in NYC he would be arrested and released without notifying ICE.

Maybe if congress changed the law they wouldn’t have to but the Obama era law is law and has to be followed. Dims don’t want to change the law because then they couldn’t complain about it.
