  1. "If we talked about any other group of human beings the way we speak about people experiencing homelessness, we would be called bigots at best"

"Mr. Marbut previously spent years working as a consultant to cities on homelessness issues." --------------------------- And is a big reason homelessness has gotten so bad because of his poor advice.

Another reason for all this talk of housing reform: the federal government wants to cut housing assistance (it's continually advocated for deep cuts in budget proposals) and aims to rollback regulations 7/7

Of course, that brings us to California's SB50, the transit-density bill from that failed for a third time this week. What will Gov. do to truly kickstart new housing construction in California? 4/7

Just look at upzoning (relaxing/changing rules to allow for denser housing). As explains here, it's being considered in cities and states across the country as a way to build needed affordable housing near jobs, transit 3/7

First off, the issue is a lot bigger and more resonant than many imagine. It's become a massive local issue, leading Dems have proposed bold housing plans, and state legislators are looking at big reforms 2/7

So HUD is more interested in Unfair housing than fair housing? It would appear so.

Here is a site in Denver where they tore down public housing and let the land sit empty for 10 years hoping no one would notice when they sold it off to a private developer. (we noticed) So this destruction of needed housing for poor folks is not new.

Atlanta 1/2 the population-2 times the budget, Boston 80%-3 times the budget. We can find a Billion Dollars a year for housing and a Billion for public transportation every year. But Denver is not built it for the people who live here, and now we have infrastructure issues

When unhoused folks are pushed from safer spaces like parks and neighborhoods, they don’t disappear. They go to less visible and often, less safe spaces. Housing is the real answer, but in the meantime, we need .

"as people move here from other parts of the country is housing prices go up, which has a negative effect at the low end of the ladder, which contributes to homelessness. We don’t see any evidence that large numbers of people are showing up to smoke pot."
