I don't know if a refutation is necessary, but a question about how or whether the worldview affords connection to reality (discovering meaning) versus optimizing cognitive machinery (making meaning) would provide interesting insight.

I agree. Part of that reality (to which we connect) is the subject-object relation, the distance between the two, the subjects’ striving, and the ‘aboutness’ of its activity — this includes cases like a baby crying without knowing what s/he needs (meaning without sense)
