I keep hearing about excessive wait times as one of the biggest arguments against single payer healthcare, and I just wonder, is this an actual problem or are Americans just fundamentally opposed to waiting for non-emergent services?

I had to wait 10 MONTHS For my first spinal fusion because I was fighting my health insurance company. There already are excessive waits in our current system.

THIS, my mom had to wait months to see a dental surgeon about a huge cyst in her jaw and I’m like y’all really don’t know about specialist waits huh

I talk with many overseas. Wait times aren't really a problem in Canada, England or Germany etc...

I’ll bet they always see real physicians and not NPs or PAs unsupervised. My German relatives wait actually less than we do to see physicians.

This is a problem in Canada. Our government controls supply in market and they underfund operating rooms for example. Many people can wait years for hip/knee replacements for example. That is the price we pay though to ensure everyone who needs urgent care gets it.

I would argue a hybrid system that allows for people to pay out of pocket for non-urgent issues should be permitted while public covers urgent/medically necessary work. Neither Canada or US has the best system. Look to Europe for inspiration with hybrid models.
