They are worried about "offending" the advertisers. That certain advertises might not want their products being shown on channels that cover "controversial" topics.

This applies arbitrary since e.g. Philip DeFranco gets his videos monetized even though he covers controversial topics such as shootings etc. The difference is that Philip is safe with his narrative so YT can tolerate it. (And,of course,CNN et all always get everything monetized)
