  1. The Navy lost one it's most famous veterans this week. Kirk Douglas joined the Navy in 1941, shortly after the U. S. entered WWII. He served as a communications officer in anti-submarine warfare aboard the USS PC-1139, before being medically discharged in 1944. RIP sailor.

    Survivors also experience barriers when seeking treatment. Many victims who report their assault receive harsh discharges-- preventing them from getting key VA healthcare. Even if eligible, the VA benefits process is often traumatizing for survivors.
