    Alright, I'm done playing antitrust activist. 1000s of people around the world do a better job. But think on this: If you built the world's best flight search, or new map, it would never succeed because Google would never rank it highly. That's how monopolies squash innovation.

    That chart is kind of misleading. It's not that the traffic came out of nowhere, it's that they moved some things. See traffic chart. Or that they came out of nowhere ranking for SEO, they've been a competitor for the term for many years with different pages. See position chart.

    Final Point: Google has improved A LOT of its documentation recently. It's appreciated, and I link to it often. But I hope we can agree (as with many other excellent Google features!) to work together to find solutions to surface this info in healthy, non anticompetitive ways.

    Listen, I'm not saying Google content isn't good/doesn't deserve to rank. But a philosophical question: Should a monopoly platform promote its own content in competition with others on that platform? Nearly every antitrust expert in the world says "no" when asked about Google.

    I’ve watched Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse at least a half-dozen times and just now noticed that in Miles Morales’ Earth (Earth-1610), never changed it’s name from “Backrub,” it’s nickname while it was under development at Stanford (billboard, far left).

    For years, I was proud of helping Moz rank #1 for "SEO" (along w/ several others) for the Beginner's Guide to SEO Now, losing that #1 spot to Google itself feels so damned defeating Feels like fighting the final boss on level 30, with difficulty set to "Ridiculous" 🤜🥴💥🤛

    New - How Google handles redirects 1) To ensure all link equity is passed, keep redirects for 1 year 2) Link equity remains even if the redirect is removed 3) After this, the original URL may earn new links (if live) but the other URL keeps all old links

    A more nuanced take: Bezos, like his phallus rocket, represents only the "tip" of 10s of thousands of corporations exploiting labor and tax laws worldwide. Bezos is a drop in the bucket of a huge, rotten system. If you really want change, your #1 option is to vote and advocate.
