    Ticket for an expired meter ($2/hr) in St Paul is $36. Not a criminal offense & doesn't go on a criminal record. Not paying train fare ($2.50) is $180. Misdemeanor & goes on a criminal record, which can impact housing & job. Decriminalize transit fare violations.

    50 years ago, roughly half of American children walked or biked to school. It's now closer to 1 in 10. The reasons are complex (some mix of stranger danger, sprawl and local education policy), but it's one of those quiet tragedies no one noticed as it happened.

    This has been such a fascinating shift in norms where it's now expected that even older children be under adult supervision in public places 100% of the time or risk being scooped up by law enforcement or protective services

    because speculators are making a killing off Bay Area homes at a huge human cost and we need to break the cycle. Let the buy the home. Recognize corporate greed and fight it because it hurts us all.

    There's no such things as a second childhood. All children deserve a home. It's time for speculators to leave Oakland, and put housing back in the hands of the community where it belongs. - stop the eviction, sell us the house!

    Heard excitement about a model flying autonomous car at a recent conference. Let me predict this now: wealthy neighborhoods will find a way to legislatively limit the number of flying cars in their neighborhoods and those cars will be maximally disruptive to poor areas.

    Probably not something I'll ride much due to how bare the insurance coverage is. Anybody who relies a lot on these services have a good plan to recommend? For non-car owners who often ride bikes and drive other people's cars and various other things?

    More info on the project from developer's website: FWIW, I am happy the neighborhood is getting a new grocery store, a rooftop farm & additional housing. Only 17 affordable units out of 204 though, and I don't have the disposable income to shop at WF.
