Repeat after me ten times: “Whether or not the laws of the universe are reductionist has no bearing on how I assign meaning to events and objects.”

It’s awfully tempting to read “intent” into natural phenomena, e.g. the evolution of humans as a “progression toward more advanced life-forms”; but that is false, and leads to false hierarchies of “advanced” life & chauvinism

Scientific reductionism offers a necessary “LOL no” to that view of evolution & subsequent chauvinism. We are NOT “more advanced” than, say, dogs — just “better adapted to a wider variety of environments”.

Oh, I don’t mean “intent” when I say meaning, I mean “what is important to you”.
