Did the specific feeling associated with certain emoticons precede the attachment to them, or did the emoticons *invent* those feelings? Was the feeling hidden in the human mind, potentially felt but without ever being called up by an appropriate stimulus?

There is a market for mining new emotions via searching through a wide range of ever-less-human emoticons and making subjects use them in chats for extended periods of time until they take on their natural potential meanings.
