I would guess this is a) due to their generally higher rate of A's in the first place, and b) because they're more likely to have smaller class sizes, and thus escape the statistical moderation process.

To clarify, I mean the size of the cohort in each subject. Where schools have low numbers of entries in a subject, Ofqual have been unable to apply their statistical moderation process, which mainly downgrades.

I think it's worth adding here that Ofqual (and SQA & the others) have been set a basically impossible task. There is just no way of giving out grades on this basis that won't generate cases of extreme unfairness for individuals.

It's also worth highlighting that the level of downgrading in the results of lower socio-economic groups appears from Ofqual's data to be less stark than that in Scotland last week:https://twitter.com/whazell/status/1293836016294465536?s=20 …

Ofqual's main publication on the results. Not sure where it's available online!

I go to a private school and we’ve been absolutely destroyed by this, 50% of our A* students have been downgraded and 20% of our A’s have been downgraded, 60% of our student body has been taken down 1 or 2 even 3 grades.

Worth perhaps more investigation with your school? As ever, these things aren’t a one size fits all result. Seems like your cohort has been lambasted by this system, worth seeing what your mates who went to local comps got too, to see if there is any comparison

Private schools seem to me to be more likely to be consistent year on year rather than fluctuating.
