I don't know about their number, but these grandchildren of Cretans are an interesting case. The 2nd even 3rd generation continued to speak Greek at home. The Greek state still doesn't fully recognize them as Greeks, because they're Muslim.

They began to identify as Greek in the 80s, after Greece became a European Union country. The Cretan Greeks now see them as distant members of their family, but at the end of the 19th Century their ancestors saw them as their mortal enemies. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Hamidiyah …
