Can I just say something, the notion of restricting your children from things you are more than able to provide for them, for the sake of teaching them to "work for it", is wrong, and the product of an extreme individualist capitalist society.

Making your children pay rent for the family house, utilities, basic human needs such as food, or even things of leisure speaks more about society than the people with this behaviour. Children do not get any good lesson out of this treatment, they get capitalist brainwashing.

There are more important things to teach your children than how to "work for it". Values of generosity, how to treat people, socioeconomic realities, dismantling systems of oppression, are lessons that benefit children & the people around them. Depriving them teaches only egoism.

the family is--or can be--the last vestige of communism in our alienated world. parents charging children, children exploiting parents, make it, as you say, a school of capitalism.
