Rhinehart (1999) in a report of clinical cases noted that the only response available to the infant is shock, wherein the central nervous system is overwhelmed by pain, followed by numbing, paralysis, and dissociation.

dissociation of the traumatic experience & emotional pain employed by infant as psychological defence (Chu & Dill, 1990; Noyes, 1977; Rhinehart,1999). Rhinehart concluded that the stillness in some babies represents a state of dissociation/shock in response to overwhelming pain

Really? The scientific literature would disagree with you. As a board-certified OBGYN I feel I have the expertise to say that it is one thing to feel a 1-day-old child should be able to choose whether or not to remove his foreskin, another to do it before he remembers it.
