      1. I want to talk about ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 13-years-old. To say it's misunderstood (both by people who have ADHD and people who don't have it) is an understatement. What people need to understand about those of us who have ADHD is we are not homogeneous

      Genuine question and I hope it's not a frustrating one: Many of us familiar with ASD, OCD etc will see a lot of overlap. How much faith do you have in the specific diagnoses (and I fully accept that we need them for practical purposes) as opposed to a broader continuum?

      As a bipolar gal who was also diagnosed with ADD around age 43 & who has a teenager with ASD, ADHD, & sensory issues, I would say that most of these conditions aren’t discrete but rather interrelate & have often negative synergies. Diagnosis is just a starting point.

      Right. That's my hunch too. But it's a frustrating one for people who need to explain to others the ways in which they're wired differently. We need labels for that - even though no one really believes they have a biological basis. Tricky situation.

      The new research is constantly confirming more and more about brain function. If you have ADHD try reading about the prefrontal cortex and executive functioning. Also look up divided and directed attention. Over focus. Someday we will have 20 different names for this.
