this provocative article shows how women are implicated in a community of genital mutilation--both as agents and as victims--the pathology involves the group as a wholehttps://twitter.com/Newsigmund/status/1069432073377722368 …

Interesting Huffpo article. I read it, and I see some salient points, but not enough to change my mind on whether or not a Jewish boy should be circumcised. It’s tradition and a religious mandate.

Neither "tradition" nor "religious mandate" is an actual reason. Both involve abrogating our human duty to question something that is clearly damaging, and instead follow the directions of ancient people who thought very differently from us, based on much less knowledge than us.

This is an old thread and while it’s an interesting thing to hear from other perspectives, it’s not like either of us is capable of changing the other’s mind. Have a great day and God bless.

The religious “mandate” that gets relaxed under rabbinical law if your first son dies from circumcision. Heaps sacred hey

Any mandate that can have an exception, and I thought this required two deaths not just one, is not a mandate and can be totally abandoned. Exceptions prove it is not actually required at all.

Exceptions to circumcision are if the child has a bleeding disorder or can’t have surgery of any kind. That doesn’t mean it’s not required normally. The Bible is very clear that the Halacha (laws) can be broken to save a human life. If you’d starve to death, you can eat pork.

Mainstream Judaism seems to have quietly dropped other retarded Bronze Age rituals. How many Jewish women actually believe that having their periods makes them and anything they touch unclean? How many burn a pigeon at their local synagogue to “cleanse” themselves every month?

if you attack circumcision, you attack the sense of chosenness & hence of tribal identification, which is of the essence of Judaism in jewish tradition. Children hurt in their integrity do not stop loving their parents. They stop loving themselves.--Jesper Juul
