The medical community cannot ignore and belittle patients who were circumcised as infants who now speak out as adults that they are horrified this surgery was done to them without their informed consent. Attacking them now is an affront to patient autonomy and medical ethics.

I unfortunately had to get my son’s done at the age of 11. There are circumstances where it has to be done. It was not a decision taken lightly, but after years of urologist appointments it was recommended. It is also not exactly child abuse.

Yes, there are circumstances when it will need to be done, I believe the rate is around 1 in 16k men will need it in their life time, but the other 15999 should not be cut to spare that one having to have it as an older boy or adult.

It's closer to 15% according to a systematic review of the literature and as adults, it's a much more significant procedure.

My father was in the circumstance and had a medically necessary circumcision at age six. It was so horrible that he urged us to have our sons circumcised as infants so they wouldn’t suffer the same. My understanding was that his problem was potentially inherited.

strange that people used to (still?) think infants less traumatized than older children/adults. everything we know about trauma shows opposite is true. people think we "don't remember"-Ron Goldman book Circumcision, the hidden trauma. until 1987 many thought infants felt no pain.
