Yes, there were many Syrians who wanted higher economic growth, more civil rights & political participation leading up to March 2011, but there were also lots of Syrians who had long waited in the wings to take revenge following the Moslem Brotherhood insurgency of 1976-80
Moslem Brotherhood has demonstrated that it can no more be considered a legitimate political player than al Qaeda or Daesh/ISIS. notwithstanding its modern facelift, Qatar is no better than Saudi.
